Softball Recap: Breese Central Takes a Loss

Breese Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Collinsville on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Kahoks by a score of 8-7. The Cougars just can't catch a break and have now endured seven defeats in a row.

Lily Lappe was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Piper Kujawa was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Johnson, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Breese Central's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Collinsville, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-4.

Looking ahead, Breese Central will challenge Farina South Central at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Breese Central's pitchers better be ready for this one: Farina South Central has averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Collinsville, they will take on Okawville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
