Softball Recap: Fitchburg Has No Trouble Against Algonquin Regional

Fitchburg had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Algonquin Regional on Monday. The Blue Raiders blew past the Titans 12-6. This was payback for the Blue Raiders, who suffered a 12-7 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Lilly Peterson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, MacKenzie Roy was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Juliet Valentin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Fitchburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in six consecutive games.

Fitchburg has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Algonquin Regional, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.

Coming up, Fitchburg will face off against Shepherd Hill Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Blue Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Algonquin Regional, they will square off against Nashoba Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Titans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
