Softball Game Preview: High Point Wildcats vs. Dumont Huskies

The High Point Wildcats will challenge the Dumont Huskies on Tuesday. Neither High Point nor Dumont posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Things were looking good for High Point after they put the first run on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (6-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Wildcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Patriots since Wednesday.

Tori Meyers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Emma Palomo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.

Meanwhile, Dumont fell victim to Pascack Valley and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 14-0 to the Indians.

Dumont's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-15. As for High Point, their loss dropped their record down to 19-6.

Dumont's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. High Point has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Dumont, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will High Point keep running through batters, or will the Huskies buck the trend?

Everything went High Point's way against Dumont in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as High Point made off with a 9-0 victory. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
