Fossil Ridge fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Denton on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 49-42 to the Broncos. On the bright side, the 42- point effort marked the Panthers' highest-scoring contest to date.

When it comes to explaining why Fossil Ridge lost, don't look at Malaki Lockhart. Despite the final result, he rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 284 yards and three TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes. Benjamin Riley was Lockhart's top target, picking up 91 receiving yards and one score.

Terrance Lopez was his usual excellent self, throwing for 265 yards and five TDs while completing 82.8% of his passes, and also rushing for 64 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries for Denton. Those five passing touchdowns gave Lopez a new career-high. Ja'Leon Jones was Lopez's top target, picking up 100 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Fossil Ridge's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Denton, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4.
