Football Recap: Roosevelt Comes Up Short at Home Against Denver City

Roosevelt unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 31-14 bruising from the Denver City Mustangs on Friday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Roosevelt lost, don't look at Jaden Zuniga. Despite the final result, he rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

Abraham Velasco had an outrageously good game for Denver City as he rushed for 89 yards and one TD. That's the most rushing yards Velasco has posted since back in September of 2024.

Roosevelt wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 35-14 defeat against New Deal on the 5th. As for Denver City, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 34-14 loss against Littlefield on the 5th.
