Football Recap: Roosevelt Comes Up Short at Home Against Denver City

Roosevelt unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. The match between the Eagles and the Denver City Mustangs didn't end well, with the Eagles falling 31-14. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Roosevelt lost on Friday, don't look at Jaden Zuniga. Despite the final result, he rushed for 82 yards and two TDs.

Abraham Velasco was nothing short of spectacular for Denver City: he rushed for 89 yards and one touchdown. That's the most rushing yards Velasco has posted since back in September of 2024.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roosevelt is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will square off against New Deal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Denver City, they will head out to take on Littlefield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
