Melrose and Dora are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. Melrose will welcome Dora at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Melrose came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 27-11 to Santa Rosa. The Buffaloes haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Josh Roybal and Josiah Roybal stepped up to the plate in a big way. Josh scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Josiah scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Josh has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cy Draper, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Melrose kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Dora came up short against Grady on Saturday, falling 24-6.
Roddy Neal was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Carson Kircher was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Dora now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Melrose, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Melrose has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .470. However, it's not like Dora struggles in that department as they've averaged .631. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Melrose took their win against Dora in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 37-4. Does Melrose have another victory up their sleeve, or will Dora turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
