Basketball Recap: Mackay Starts Season with Win at Home + How To Watch

Mackay gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They walked away with a 59-51 victory over the Dietrich Blue Devils. This was payback for the Miners, who suffered a 78-71 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Leading Mackay to victory were Dax Teichert and Ryker Summers. Teichert went 8-for-13 to rack up 17 points and four steals, while Summers dropped a double-double with 19 points and 14 boards. Those 19 points gave Summers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jesse Barger, who posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Mackay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

This is the second loss in a row for Dietrich and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Mackay won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Challis at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Dietrich, they will be playing at home against Murtaugh at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
