Softball Game Preview: Mira Mesa Marauders vs. Christian Patriots

The Mira Mesa Marauders are taking a road trip to square off against the Christian Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Mira Mesa took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Grossmont by a score of 9-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Marauders as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Brooklyn Haug made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carla Murguia, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isabel Novak, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Mira Mesa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Christian came tearing into Saturday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Crusaders, sneaking past 3-1.

Alyssa McCurty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits.

At the plate, Ashley Wood was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Mira Mesa's record is now 4-8. As for Christian, their record now sits at 14-3-1.

Mira Mesa came up short against Christian in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, falling 7-4. Can the Marauders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
