Softball Recap: Elba Tigers vs. Samson Tigers
Elba put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against the Samson Tigers as the Elba Tigers made off with a 12-6 victory. Fans of Elba have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout.
Ayrika Caldwell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Caldwell has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts every time she's pitched this season. Caldwell was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, Destinee Tidwell was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalleigh Russell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
On Samson's side, Makayla Phillips was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Elba's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those good results were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs per game. As for Samson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.
Elba will play host again on Tuesday to welcome Pleasant Home, where first pitch is scheduled at 4:30 p.m. Elba knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with flashy run totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Pleasant Home likes a good challenge. As for Samson, they will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Daleville. Samson is facing Daleville at the right time seeing as Daleville is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
