Volleyball Recap: Smidt Tech Comes Up Short

Smidt Tech lost against Animo De La Hoya back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Smidt Tech lost 3-0 to Animo De La Hoya. The Grey Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-15, 25-19.

Despite the loss, Smidt Tech saw an underclassman step up: freshman Aaron Benicio had three digs and three aces. The dominant performance also gave Benicio a new career-high in assists (six). Israel Beltran also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assists of the season.

Even though they lost, Smidt Tech was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 18 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Usiel Zepeda was the offensive standout of the game as he had seven kills, two aces, and one block.

Smidt Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Animo De La Hoya, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-1.

Smidt Tech has already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Camino Nuevo Dalzell Lance Campus on the 19th. As for Animo De La Hoya, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Sotomayor on the 14th.
