Basketball Recap: Venice Snags 12th Victory in Last 13 Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Venice had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged the Haines City Hornets out 54-52. That's more bragging rights for the Indians, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Venice had a senior duo take command as Tessa Oleary went 7-for-17 to rack up 28 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds and Zoe O'Leary posted ten points along with eight boards and three steals. O'Leary is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last 18 games she's played. Addison Ivery was another key player, putting up five points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Haines City lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Delyana Morris, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Howard, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

Venice is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Haines City, their loss dropped their record down to 21-6.

Looking ahead, Venice will square off against Winter Haven at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Winter Haven will roll in looking for their 17th straight victory, something Venice surely won't give up without a fight. Haines City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
