Baseball Game Preview: Union Pines Vikings vs. Southwest Guilford Cowboys

The Union Pines Vikings will challenge the Southwest Guilford Cowboys at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Southwest Guilford took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Union Pines, who comes in off a win.

Union Pines was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Uwharrie Charter Academy.

Union Pines got a great performance from June Thomas as he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. Thomas has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Southwest Guilford's offense. They came up short against Corinth Holders on Monday, falling 10-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Cowboys, who until this contest were averaging 2.89 runs allowed.

Union Pines' win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Southwest Guilford, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-5 record this season.
