Basketball Recap: Macey Crider's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Edgewood over Martinsville

Edgewood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 47-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Martinsville Artesians. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Artesians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Macey Crider, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. Crider has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Kyleigh Murphy was another key player, putting up five points.

Martinsville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jade Meade, who posted nine points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Ruby Murrell, who put up 15 points.

Edgewood's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Martinsville, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-15.

Edgewood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 36-31 victory against Brown County on the 31st. Martinsville has also already played their next contest (against Terre Haute South Vigo), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
