Centennial is 8-2 against Vero Beach since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will square off against the Fighting Indians at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Centennial is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over Central. Considering the Eagles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Tynlee Smith made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addyson Barton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Hazelton, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Centennial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Vero Beach earned a 7-4 win over Treasure Coast on Tuesday. The Fighting Indians haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Crysaria Joseph was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season. Kylie Williams was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Centennial's win bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Vero Beach, their victory bumped their record up to 9-11.
Centennial was able to grind out a solid win over Vero Beach in their previous matchup back in March, winning 6-3. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Fighting Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
