Baseball Recap: Alamogordo Falls Short Against Ranked Clovis

Alamogordo faced Clovis in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Alamogordo fell just short of Clovis by a score of 6-5. Tigers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Wildcats since on Friday.

Kade Kiss was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Preston Eldred stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he scored a run while going 2-for-3. Jaden Ruiz also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Even though they lost, Alamogordo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Alamogordo has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-3 record this season. Clovis is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season.

Alamogordo didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-1 defeat against Deming on the 22nd. As for Clovis, they have also already played their next contest, an 11-0 win against Los Alamos on the 22nd.
