Preview: Blake Yellow Jackets vs. Jesuit Tigers
The Blake Yellow Jackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jesuit Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Blake's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games.
Last Friday, Blake earned a 61-53 victory over Sickles. Given Blake's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Sickles is ranked 515th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Blake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joshua Lewis led the charge by scoring 17 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. That makes it two consecutive games in which Lewis has scored at least 25% of Blake's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kentrell Martin, who scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Jesuit has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 20 points or more this season. They were the clear victor by a 67-47 margin over Land O' Lakes. The win made it back-to-back wins for Jesuit.
Jesuit's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nate Boakye, who scored 14 points along with 6 assists. The contest was Boakye's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Christopher Moliere was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 4 steals.
Blake has yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 8-1 record. As for Jesuit, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Blake have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 40.3% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Jesuit struggles in that department as they've drained 47.4% of theirs this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Blake didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Jesuit in their previous meeting back in February, but they still walked away with a 49-45 win. Will Blake repeat their success, or does Jesuit have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
