Baseball Recap: Wayne Pioneers vs. Lawrence County Bulldogs

Wayne had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-19 to make it five. They lost 6-0 to the Lawrence County Bulldogs. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2017.

Wayne saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Prater, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

As for Lawrence County, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

On Lawrence County's side, the result came thanks to Eli Fletcher's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, Boedy Maynard was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Whisenant, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Wayne will head out to square off against Buffalo at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pioneers are facing the Bison at the right time seeing as the Bison are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Lawrence County, they will host Johnson Central at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Golden Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.
