Softball Game Preview: Mott Corsairs vs. South Lyon East Cougars

The Mott Corsairs are taking a road trip to square off against the South Lyon East Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Mott took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Ferndale as they made off with a 10-1 win. The Corsairs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

South Lyon East not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17th (when they won 8-1). Everything went their way against Brighton as they made off with an 18-11 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

The team relied heavily on Olivia McPherson (2026), who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had over her last ten games. Katie Jankowski (2026) was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

South Lyon East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

South Lyon East's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Mott, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-11.

Mott suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to South Lyon East in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Corsairs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
