Jon Kitna, an NFL quarterback for 16 seasons including a stint with the Dallas Cowboys, is off to a 3-0 start in his first year as head coach at Waxahachie.

His Indians, 2-8 a year ago, debut at No. 25 in this week's MaxPreps Texas Top 25 after a 38-20 victory over rival Ennis on Friday.

A key element in Waxahachie's resurgence has been at quarterback. The coach's son, Jordan Kitna, has thrown for 786 yards and eight touchdowns. A year ago, Jordan averaged 370 passing yards in an 11-game season and led the state of Washington in touchdown passes with 55 while playing for his father at Lincoln (Tacoma, Wash.).

Coach Kitna had a 24-8 record in three seasons at Lincoln.
