Basketball Recap: Eleanor Roosevelt Comes Up Short

Eleanor Roosevelt lost against Flowers back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders received a blow as they fell 74-55 to the Flowers Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Jaguars are ranked 17th).

When it comes to explaining why Eleanor Roosevelt lost, don't look at Camille Brandon. Despite the final result, she went 6-for-10 on her way to 18 points and seven boards. Those 18 points gave Brandon a new career-high. Cora Moore was another key player, putting up six points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks.

Flowers found their leader in sophomore Ava Redmond, who went 10-for-25 to rack up 25 points in addition to eight assists and four steals. The matchup was Redmond's fifth in a row with at least 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alana Joy, who went 6-for-14 en route to 15 points and three steals.

Eleanor Roosevelt's record now sits at 12-8. As for Flowers, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 16-2.

Eleanor Roosevelt has already played their next contest, a 58-27 win against Suitland on the 18th. As for Flowers, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-51 victory against Parkdale on the 18th.
