East Nicolaus has gone a perfect 10-0 against Durham recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (East Nicolaus 2.1, Durham 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
East Nicolaus managed to slip by Colusa the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Spartans lost 6-0 to the RedHawks on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Spartans have suffered since April 17, 2024.
Stevie Knight spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Durham had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Pirates. Considering the Trojans have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Annalee Horn was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Horn was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Durham got a massive performance out of Maggie Sjolund, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Sjolund a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sadie Sjolund, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Durham's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for East Nicolaus, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 15-6 record.
East Nicolaus took their victory against Durham in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
