Basketball Recap: Jackson Day Snags Sixth Win in Last Eight Games

Jackson Day won the last time they faced Piedmont Community Charter, and Tralyn Phillips did her part to make sure it happened again. The Jackson Day Mariners enjoyed a cozy 52-36 win over the Piedmont Community Charter Patriots on Tuesday thanks in part to Phillips, who went 13 of 27 on her way to 28 points and eight steals. Jackson Day is undefeated when Phillips posts five or more steals, but 5-9 otherwise.

Amyia Martin was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in shooting accuracy (67%).

Evangeline East and Allasha Houser certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. East posted four points in addition to four steals and three blocks, while Houser dropped a double-double with 11 points and 21 boards. Houser has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bree Phillips, who put up five points and five boards.

Jackson Day has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points over those games. As for Piedmont Community Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
