Basketball Game Preview: South Summit Wildcats vs. Ben Lomond Scots

Two dominant guards in Logan Woolstenhulme and Jaerdan Vanbeekum are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The South Summit Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Ben Lomond Scots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ben Lomond took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on South Summit, who comes in off a win.

It was a proper cat-fight when South Summit took on Union on Wednesday. South Summit walked away with a 70-57 win over Union. The score was all tied up 32-32 at the break, but the Wildcats were the better team in the second half.

Meanwhile, Ben Lomond was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Morgan and fell 83-49. While losing is never fun, the Scots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Trojans are ranked 18th).

South Summit will need focus on slowing down Vanbeekum, one of several Ben Lomond players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 12 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zeb Whetton, who had 11 points and six boards.

South Summit is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Ben Lomond, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.

South Summit strolled past Ben Lomond when the teams last played two weeks ago by a score of 78-64. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Summit since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
