Basketball Recap: Kirkwood Falls Despite Big Games from Kennedy Andrews and Destiny Hughes

Kirkwood lost against Springfield back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Kirkwood Cobras fell just short of the Springfield Yellow Jackets by a score of 39-37. The Cobras have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Kirkwood had strong showings from Destiny Hughes, who posted ten points in addition to six rebounds and four steals, and Kennedy Andrews, who scored 11 points and five boards. Hughes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.

Amaya Walker was the offensive standout of the contest as she had five points along with ten boards and three blocks. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Kirkwood's defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Springfield, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kirkwood will square off against West Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Kirkwood is facing West Creek at the right time seeing as West Creek is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Springfield, they will take on Rossview at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
