Baseball Game Preview: Haldane Blue Devils vs. Briarcliff Bears

The Haldane Blue Devils will square off against the Briarcliff Bears at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Haldane has struggled recently with 12 losses in a row, while Briarcliff will arrive with three straight victories.

On Saturday, Haldane came up short against Valhalla and fell 7-2.

Haldane saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Theo Swan, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Briarcliff and North Salem had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Bears never let the Tigers get on the board and left with an 8-0 win on Saturday.

Lucas Martinez was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for Briarcliff: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Max Amador, who went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Briarcliff always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Haldane's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Briarcliff, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5-1.

Haldane might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Briarcliff in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
