Basketball Recap: Washington County Comes Up Short

Washington County played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Gates County Red Barons and fell 66-33. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Red Barons recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Aaliyah Carter and Ke'Nyia Young certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Carter posted 11 points and five assists, while Young went 6 of 12 en route to 13 points.

Gates County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zebriya Woodley out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance gave Woodley a new career-high in points. London Barber was another key player, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Washington County's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Gates County, they pushed their record up to 20-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Washington County will host Martin County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gates County, they are taking a road trip to face off against North East Carolina Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gates County is facing North East Carolina Prep at the right time seeing as North East Carolina Prep is stuck on a 23-game losing streak.
