Basketball Recap: Duarte Comes Up Short

Duarte lost against Sierra Vista back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Duarte Falcons came up short against the Sierra Vista Dons, falling 65-43.

Sierra Vista found their leader in sophomore Ethan Guevara, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Guevara is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Aguayo, who posted 13 points and five steals.

Duarte has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points per game. As for Sierra Vista, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.

Duarte won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Nogales at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sierra Vista, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll square off against Azusa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sierra Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season.
