Baseball Recap: Poplar Springs Has No Trouble Against Bethlehem

Poplar Springs had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Bethlehem on Tuesday. The Atomics were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the Wildcats. The Atomics might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by ten runs or more this season.

Baron Hall and Landen Gammons were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Hall struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Gammons struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Hall has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hall scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Gammons scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Poplar Springs is 2-1 when Hall posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Hudson Mattox was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Howell, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Poplar Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win got Poplar Springs back to even at 5-5. As for Bethlehem, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Poplar Springs has already played their next match, a 15-11 victory against Ponce De Leon on the 28th. As for Bethlehem, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 24-1 loss against Malone on the 1st.
