Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Archbishop Spalding). They put the hurt on Mercy with a sharp 23-5 win on Thursday. The Cavaliers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
Cessi Prince looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Taylor Codi was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Tori Codi, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.
Archbishop Spalding always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Archbishop Spalding's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Leonardtown, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Leonardtown has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .515. However, it's not like Archbishop Spalding struggles in that department as they've averaged .492. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
