Softball Preview: Buena Colts vs. Nogales Apaches

Buena is 10-0 against Nogales since March of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Buena Colts will head out on the road to challenge the Nogales Apaches at 4:00 p.m. Buena is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Last Wednesday, Buena made easy work of Rincon/University and carried off a 20-5 victory. 20 seems to be a good number for Buena as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Katie Serna made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Serna was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and a double.

In other batting news, Buena got a massive performance out of Morgan Smith, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Kallie Sturdevant was another key contributor, scoring three runs while going 4-for-5.

Meanwhile, Nogales was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 10-0 walloping at the hands of Mountain View.

Nogales saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eliana Acevedo, who went 1-for-2 with a stolen base.

The victory made it two in a row for Buena and bumps their season record up to 5-12. As for Nogales, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.
