Preview: Ludlowe Falcons vs. Wilton Warriors
Ludlowe has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Wilton Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Ludlowe blew past Norwalk, posting a 49-6 victory at home. Given Ludlowe's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Norwalk is ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Christopher Bellantoni, who threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes. Bellantoni hasn't dropped below 300 passing yards for three straight games. Ludlowe also got help from Gerald Jacobs who showed off his sure hands for 130 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, everything went Wilton's way against McMahon on Friday as Wilton made off with a 31-6 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Wilton.
Wilton can attribute much of their success to Peter Reyes, who rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.6 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Reyes' longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards. Joey Hagerty was another key contributor, throwing for 138 yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding McMahon to a paltry 162 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Wilton's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out 8.5 times before it was all said and done. Owen Theoharides was especially locked on to McMahon's QB and sacked him 5.5 times.
Ludlowe's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Norwalk, McMahon, and Ridgefield. As for Wilton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Ludlowe came up short against Wilton in their previous meeting back in September of 2022, falling 24-14. Can Ludlowe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
