League recap: Whiteside throws longest pass in league this season for Delta

Mitch Whiteside and Chris Black provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Moffat County. The connection went for 77 yards, the longest such play in 3A Western Slope this season.

Rifle extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Montezuma-Cortez, 62-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

Black was the best wideout in the league this week as Delta topped the Bulldogs. Black tallied five receptions for 111 yards. Ryan Whiteside helped Delta's passing attack out by catching two balls for 19 yards.

Ryan Moeller was the most productive running back in 3A Western Slope this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 238 yards as Rifle beat Moffat County. Kellin Leigh also contributed to the rushing game with 183 yards on the ground.

JOHN WALCK put up the best numbers through the air as the Panthers fell to Damon Wells's team. He finished with a total of nine completions for 163 yards and one touchdown. WALCK's favorite target this week was Dakota Goosen, who caught two passes for 66 yards.

Delta's Whiteside and Black have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Whiteside has thrown for 655 yards this season, while Black, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 21 catches for 352 yards. Moeller from the Bears leads the league in rushing with 1230 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Eagle Valley takes on Kip Hafey's team. At the moment, the Devils are in third, while the Bulldogs are in fifth.

Ben Johnson's team was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Panthers triumphed over Moffat County 21-14.
