Baseball Recap: Mt. Pleasant Find Success

After low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, Mt. Pleasant brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They walked away with a 10-5 win over the D'Evelyn Jaguars on Monday. Considering the Vikings' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Cole Chatfield was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Chatfield was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those runs were his first of the season.

Chatfield wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Kitz, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Kitz also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Connor Drzal was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Mt. Pleasant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Mt. Pleasant's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2-2. As for D'Evelyn, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Mt. Pleasant will host Freeport at 4:00 p.m. on March 24th. As for D'Evelyn, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 10-7 loss against Franklin Regional on the 17th.
