The Mercy Bears will square off against the Burlingame Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Mercy's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.
Mercy's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on El Camino with a sharp 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won five games by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Melina Antonio looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Vivianna Reyes was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was McKenna Fua, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Mercy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Burlingame fell victim to Capuchino and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Burlingame saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Arce, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Mercy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Burlingame, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Burlingame's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mercy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. It's a different story for Burlingame, though, as they've only averaged .320. Will they be able to contain Mercy's hitters?
