Volleyball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Newburyport's Winning Streak + How To Watch

If Newburyport was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Triton Regional on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Clippers fell just short of the Masconomet Regional Chieftains by a score of 3-2 on Friday. The Clippers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chieftains apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Newburyport started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 13-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-11.

Leading Masconomet Regional to victory were Lidia Benedetto and Jordan Draper. Benedetto had 12 digs and two assists, while Draper had 36 assists and three digs. Those two assists gave Benedetto a new career-high.

Newburyport moved to 6-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Masconomet Regional, they pushed their record up to 4-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Newburyport will head out to square off against Lynnfield at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Masconomet Regional, they will be playing at home against Winthrop at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
