Baseball Recap: Mesa Comes Up Short

Mesa extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-19 in the process. They came up short against the Mountain View Toros, falling 16-0. The Jackrabbits were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Toros apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Mesa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lane Goodman, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Mountain View, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

On Mountain View's side, Austin Burr tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Burr has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mountain View got a massive performance out of Mitchell Lamoreaux, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Lamoreaux a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lincoln Arrington, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

While Mesa had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
