Baseball Recap: Torrey Pines' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Torrey Pines barely beat La Costa Canyon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Falcons blew past the Mavericks 8-1 on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Falcons as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Brody Martin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Torrey Pines' success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is 3-1 (and 8-10 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ryder Young, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Torrey Pines is undefeated when Young posts two or more runs, but 8-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Moran, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Torrey Pines was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

The win got Torrey Pines back to even at 11-11. As for La Costa Canyon, their record is now 11-9.

Torrey Pines will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mavericks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
