Basketball Recap: Phoenix Academy Takes a Loss

Phoenix Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by the College Prep & Leadership Academy Royals 81-30. While losing is never fun, the Firebirds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 547th, while the Royals are ranked 89th).

College Prep & Leadership Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marlon Carson, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 15 points and three steals. Carson has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmad Frazier, who posted eight points in addition to 15 rebounds and four blocks.

Phoenix Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for College Prep & Leadership Academy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Phoenix Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Piedmont Classical at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Piedmont Classical is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.4 points per game this season. As for College Prep & Leadership Academy, they and North Stanly will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (North Stanly has won three straight at home, while College Prep & Leadership Academy won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
