The Laney Buccaneers will challenge the Hoggard Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Laney made easy work of Dixon and carried off a 13-2 win. Considering the Buccaneers have won six matchups by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hoggard). They never let West Brunswick get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. With that win, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Macey Ciamillo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Hoggard got a massive performance out of Olivia Demetriou, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Charlotte Lee, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Hoggard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Hoggard's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.75 hits in those games compared to only 4.67 in the others. As for Laney, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Laney was able to grind out a solid victory over Hoggard in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 8-3. Will Laney repeat their success, or does Hoggard have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
