Football Preview: Alleghany Trojans vs. Mitchell Mountaineers
After starting their season with three straight games on the road, Alleghany is finally coming home. They will be defending their home-fieldthey go up against the Mitchell Mountaineers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, Alleghany slipped by Grayson County 21-20.
Meanwhile, Mitchell beat McDowell 34-24 on Friday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mitchell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Owen Riddle, who rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Riddle got the majority of those yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible76 yards. Another back making a difference was Kaj Pittman, who rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Mitchell wouldn't let McDowell keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Mitchell can thank Chris Wences and Jace Blanton for forcing both of them. Wences also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing a fumble and making three total tackles.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Mitchell was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 406 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McDowell only gained 190.
Alleghany now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Mitchell, the victory also got them back to even at 1-1.
