Softball Recap: Westminster Lions vs. Katella Knights

Westminster had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 7-15 to make it four. They lost 13-3 to the Katella Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-2 back in April.

Naomi Miranda made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three runs.

As for Katella, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. The result was nothing new for Katella, who have now won 11 contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

On Katella's side, Dani Neville was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Neville was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Katella let Sophia Becerra and Zyla Rosales run wild. Becerra went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Rosales went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs Becerra has posted since back in March. Nataly Rodarte was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Westminster has already played their next matchup, a 10-0 loss against Buena Park on the 5th. As for Katella, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Santa Monica at 3:15 p.m. on the 15th.
