Softball Recap: Willamette Wolverines vs. Sheldon Irish
Willamette was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sheldon Irish. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Irish this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-2 on Saturday.
Jadynn Ireland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Willamette saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Delaney Smith, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Willamette's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Sheldon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Willamette is set to square off against their familiar foe South Eugene at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Sheldon will take on rival South Medford at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Irish's favor as the squad sits on 13 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Panthers have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
