Basketball Game Preview: Fayetteville Lions vs. Brookeland Wildcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Lions challenge the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fayetteville is coming into the game hot, having won their last 17 games.

Fayetteville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Wells by a score of 74-66.

Meanwhile, Brookeland had already won 14 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 63.8 points) and they went ahead and made it 15 on Tuesday. They took down the Cowboys 66-52. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 454th in Texas, while the Cowboys are ranked 935th in Texas), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brookeland's win came from a few key players Fayetteville will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cade Morgan, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 boards. He has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. Zack Beatty was another key player, going 11-for-20 to rack up 23 points.

Brookeland was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They are 27-5 when they've passed the ball that well.

Fayetteville pushed their record up to 27-8 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Brookeland, their record now sits at 28-7.

Fayetteville beat Brookeland 74-64 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Brookeland's Landon Smith, who posted 28 points. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Fayetteville still be able to contain Smith? There's only one way to find out.
