Recap: Western Guilford Hornets vs. Northern Guilford Nighthawks
The Western Guilford Hornets suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were beaten by Northern Guilford 80-25. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Western Guilford has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Western Guilford saw an underclassman step up: Star Hughes scored nine points. Marissa Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two blocks.
Western Guilford struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Western Guilford and nudges their season record down to 5-7. As for Northern Guilford, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Guilford will square off against Southern Alamance at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Southern Alamance is ranked 306th, while Western Guilford is ranked 305th). As for Northern Guilford, they will head out on the road to face off against Page at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
