The Rejoice Christian Eagles will challenge the Pawhuska Huskies at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Rejoice Christian has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Rejoice Christian is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Pryor just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 16-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Eagles have suffered since March 27th.
Rejoice Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trace Sanchez, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Callen Duncan was another, earning two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Pawhuska hadn't done well against Caney Valley recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Huskies blew past the Trojans 12-2. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Huskies' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Logan Cass and Corlin Cass made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Cass struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Corlin tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Logan has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Cass went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Corlin went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Corlin has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Canyon Hindman, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lane Kyler, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Pawhuska always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Caney Valley only posted an OBP of .474.
Rejoice Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 17-15. As for Pawhuska, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Rejoice Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Pawhuska struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
