Baseball Recap: Lower Cape May Comes Up Short

Lower Cape May had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-8 to make it four. They lost 8-1 to the Cedar Creek Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, with their most recent loss being a 12-1 defeat on Wednesday.

Lower Cape May saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashton Ray, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Cedar Creek, their win bumped their record up to 9-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

On Cedar Creek's side, they got a great performance from Colin Rueckert as he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Rueckert has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cedar Creek let Nolan Scholder and Nate Winterbottom run wild. Scholder went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs, while Winterbottom went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Scholder is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Richie Gonzales was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Lower Cape May has already played their next game (against Middle Township), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Cedar Creek, they will head out to take on Collingswood at 11:30 a.m. on Monday.
