Baseball Recap: Mount Vernon Comes Up Short

Mount Vernon fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hayfield on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 3-2. The Majors have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Mount Vernon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hudson Grimsley, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Mount Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Hayfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Mount Vernon has already played their next contest, a 7-5 win against Justice on the 15th. As for Hayfield, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 16-0 victory against Lewis on the 19th.
