Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mt. Vernon can now relate to. They fell 63-59 to the Jeffersonville Red Devils on Saturday. The Marauders' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Mt. Vernon lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Luke Ertel, who shot 43% from the field to rack up 29 points and five assists. His big performance that afternoon made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. Max Vise was another key player, going 5-for-6 on his way to 13 points and five rebounds.

Jeffersonville had a senior duo take command as Michael Cooper shot 62% from the field en route to 24 points and Tre Singleton went 6-for-10 to rack up 18 points and eight boards. Cooper is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last ten games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of PJ Douglas, who posted eight points.

Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 21-6. As for Jeffersonville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 19 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.

Mt. Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Jeffersonville, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-49 win against Lawrence North on the 22nd.
