Basketball Recap: Live Oak Comes Up Short

Live Oak lost against Las Plumas back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Live Oak Lions took a blow against the Las Plumas Thunderbirds, falling 62-34. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1034th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 258th).

T.J. Thompson was his usual excellent self, putting up 17 points and eight steals for Las Plumas. The contest was Thompson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Casmir Jones, who went 6 of 13 en route to 17 points.

Live Oak's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-7. As for Las Plumas, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Live Oak will host Gridley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gridley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Live Oak likes a good challenge. As for Las Plumas, they will be playing at home against Oroville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Las Plumas is facing Oroville at the right time seeing as Oroville is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
